Emraan Hashmi Says Haq Doesn’t Target Any Community

Emraan Hashmi is ready to show a new side of himself in his upcoming film Haq, a legal drama inspired by the famous Shah Bano case. The movie highlights issues around divorce rights for Muslim women and stars Emraan alongside Yami Gautam, who plays a character inspired by Shah Bano.

After the trailer’s release, Haq received both praise and criticism. Some people felt it targeted the Muslim community, but Emraan cleared the air, saying the film doesn’t point fingers at anyone.

In an interview with ANI, Emraan said, “When I read the script, I looked at it as an actor, but also with awareness about the sensitivity of my community. This film gives a balanced view and doesn’t judge or attack any community.”

He further added, “As a liberal Muslim, I had no issues with the film’s message. If it had shown anything wrong about my community, I wouldn’t have done it. My life is secular — I married a Hindu woman, and in my family, my son does both puja and namaz. Everyone sees a film through their own background and beliefs.”

Haq is directed by Suparn S. Varma and also stars Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady. The movie is produced by Vineet Jain, Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta, and Harman Baweja, and will hit theatres on November 7.

The film takes inspiration from the Shah Bano case, a major legal event in India that fought for Muslim women’s rights to maintenance after divorce.
