When International Media Compared Dharmendra To James Dean
Dharmendra is remembered today as Bollywood’s strong and action-packed ‘He-Man’. But when he started his career, he was known for his romantic roles and charming looks. In the late 60s and early 70s, many people believed he was one of the most handsome actors in the industry — and even international media agreed.
Some foreign magazines listed him among the top 10 or even top 5 most handsome men in the world, with a few calling him the No. 1.

In the 1970s, Dharmendra’s popularity grew, and film magazines in India and abroad often featured him. Many international publications compared him to Hollywood stars like James Dean and Paul Newman.
In an old interview, Dharmendra said he didn’t even know who one of the Hollywood actors was at first. After watching his film, he laughed and said he understood why people thought they looked a little similar.
