Bajpayee & Ahlawat On Family Man 3: Learning Together

Years after playing father and son in Gangs of Wasseypur, Manoj Bajpayee and Jaideep Ahlawat are coming together again in The Family Man 3 — but this time, as enemies. Even though they face each other on screen, the two actors can’t stop praising each other in real life.

Jaideep Ahlawat, 45, said he has huge respect for Manoj Bajpayee. The 56-year-old actor also praised Ahlawat and said he is amazed by his talent.

Manoj shared that he loved Ahlawat’s performance in Paatal Lok.
“I watched Paatal Lok and I can talk about every scene. I like Jaideep’s work a lot. That’s why I keep mentioning Paatal Lok. He has done such a great job,” Bajpayee told PTI during an interview with the Family Man 3 team.

Ahlawat also said he has watched almost all of Bajpayee’s films.
“He has done so much amazing work. If you study his performances, it feels like a masterclass for any actor,” he said.

The two first met on the sets of Chittagong and later worked together in Gangs of Wasseypur. They recalled a funny moment from an event for Bajpayee’s film Jugnuma, where Anurag Kashyap, Jaideep Ahlawat and actor Vijay Varma playfully touched Bajpayee’s feet. The video went viral.
Manoj said he felt embarrassed and blamed Kashyap for starting it. Ahlawat, however, said the moment was just fun for everyone.

When asked if their bond is like a guru and student, Bajpayee denied it.
“It’s not a guru-shishya relationship. His teachers in FTII are his real gurus. We simply learn from each other’s work,” he said.

Manoj also revealed that he recommended Jaideep for the role of Shahid Khan in Wasseypur.
“Anurag was looking for someone to play Shahid Khan. I told him Jaideep is very talented and perfect for the role. I’m happy he got the part,” he added.

Now, 13 years later, the two return in The Family Man 3. Bajpayee plays Srikant Tiwari, while Ahlawat plays the villain Rukma along with Nimrat Kaur’s character Meera. Ahlawat said he immediately agreed to join and only hoped their shooting dates would match.
“I didn’t even ask how many scenes I had with sir. I just knew we would meet somewhere on set,” he said.
