“Aamir Khan Backs Out Of Sitaare Zameen Par”

Bollywood star Aamir Khan is ready to return to the big screen with his new film Sitaare Zameen Par. He shared during the Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit & Awards 2025 that he almost did not act in this film because he was feeling depressed. At first, Farhan Akhtar was going to play the lead role in the Hindi version, and Sivakarthikeyan was chosen for the Tamil version.

Before COVID-19, Aamir and the director R.S. Prasanna planned the film. But when the pandemic started, Aamir decided to take a break and spend time with his family. Later, his children encouraged him to continue acting, so he worked on Laal Singh Chaddha. However, since Laal Singh Chaddha did not do well in theaters, Aamir felt sad and thought about quitting Sitaare Zameen Par.

Aamir said, “I told the director I was depressed and needed a break. He was very understanding and asked me to produce the film instead. At that time, we planned two versions: Hindi with Farhan Akhtar and Tamil with Sivakarthikeyan. They liked the script and had arranged their schedules.”

When Aamir finally read the script carefully, he fell in love with it. He told the director and writer that he wanted to act in the film, even though casting was done. The director encouraged him and said that he had always been the first choice.

Aamir then apologized to Farhan and Sivakarthikeyan. Though they were a little disappointed, they understood his decision.
