Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is one of the four big names supporting debut director Karan Tejpal’s action thriller Stolen, which recently released on Amazon Prime Video. Alongside Anurag, the other executive producers are Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, and Nikkhil Advani.
Anurag says Stolen stands out not because of the names backing it, but because of its strong content. He adds, “We all have different styles of filmmaking, so when four different filmmakers support one movie, it helps the film connect with more people.”
He also says he wishes he had such support early in his own career. “Imagine if senior filmmakers had backed Gulaal, Black Friday, or Paanch back then—it would have made a big difference,” he says.
Talking about the current state of Hindi cinema, Anurag agrees with fellow filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, who said that the audience no longer trusts filmmakers because of things like paid reviews. Anurag adds, “Even we (filmmakers) have stopped trusting a lot of things now. Earlier, we looked at reviews for real feedback. Now, only 4-5 reviewers are left who we actually respect.
