Brahmaputra Fest Delayed To 2026 For Zubeen Garg Tribute

Assam is still mourning the loss of one of its most loved artists, Zubeen Garg, who passed away last month in Singapore. To honour his memory, the organisers of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) have decided to postpone the 10th edition of the event to 2026.

The festival was earlier planned for December 4 to 7, 2025, but the organisers shared an emotional note on Instagram announcing the delay.
They said, “It is with a heavy heart that we postpone the 10th edition of BVFF to 2026 as Assam mourns the loss of its cultural icon, Zubeen Garg. His voice and vision inspired generations. BVFF stands with the people and the creative community.”

The post also mentioned that the festival wants to pause celebrations this year in respect and remembrance of the late singer. Refunds for submissions will be processed soon, they added.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death continues to create tension in Assam. Five people, including his manager Siddhartha Sharma, cousin Sandipan Garg, and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. When they were taken to Baksa District Jail, a large crowd gathered, and protests turned violent, with vehicles set on fire.

Zubeen Garg, aged 52, tragically died on September 19, 2025, in Singapore. While it was first said to be a scuba diving accident, later reports confirmed he drowned in water.

His death has left a deep void in Assam’s cultural world, and the festival’s tribute reflects how much he meant to the people.
