Kangana Ranaut is set to make her solo directorial debut with the political thriller Emergency. The film stars Kangana as Indira Gandhi and Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan. Ahead of the release, Kangana shared a 2014 interview clip where she promised Anupam she’d cast him in her first directorial venture.
In the old clip from The Anupam Kher Show, Kangana confidently said, “Bilkul lenge (for sure),” when asked if she’d cast him. Fast forward to now, Kangana says casting Anupam was crucial: “No one else could portray Jayaprakash Narayan like him.”
Emergency also features Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and Mahima Chaudhary. It hits theaters on January 17.
