Filmmaker Karan Johar recently spoke on Raj Shamani’s podcast about the ongoing debate around star kids and nepotism in Bollywood. He said that while star kids do get chances because of their family background, only talent and hard work help in the long run.
Karan praised actors like Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, calling them very talented despite being from film families. He also said that superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are examples of outsiders who made it big, showing that talent matters more than background.
Talking about Shah Rukh Khan’s kids, Karan said Suhana Khan is a “terrific talent” and will prove herself in her upcoming film King, where she stars alongside her father. He shared that he’s seen Suhana’s student films and believes she will shine in the film industry.
He also praised Aryan Khan for his hard work and unique personality. Aryan is making his debut as a director with a Netflix series titled The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, produced by his mother Gauri Khan. Karan said Aryan works 20 hours a day and doesn’t rely on his father’s name or fame. He called Aryan a private and dedicated person with his own voice.
In short, Karan Johar believes that while being a star kid helps open doors, it’s talent, consistency, and fate that decide long-term success.
