Lata Mangeshkar, one of India’s greatest singers, had a special connection with cricket. She always got free tickets for every Indian cricket match. But not many know that this was because of a man named Raj Singh Dungarpur, a former cricketer and BCCI President. More than that, he was believed to be Lata’s one true love.
Raj Singh was born into a royal family in Rajasthan. He was a talented cricketer who played for Rajasthan and later became an important cricket administrator. He met Lata Mangeshkar in the 1960s through her brother, Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Their bond grew strong, and they reportedly fell in love.
However, their families did not approve of their relationship. Raj Singh’s royal family wanted him to marry someone from the same background, while Lata’s family wanted a Marathi groom for her. Despite Raj Singh trying to convince his family, they did not agree.
Even though they never married, Lata and Raj Singh remained close friends for life. In an interview in 2004, Raj Singh spoke about their relationship. He said, “We came from different backgrounds, and the 60s were a different time. Maybe we were both too attached to our families. But our bond has never changed. She is someone I admire and care for deeply.”
Raj Singh Dungarpur never married, and Lata Mangeshkar also remained single. Their story is one of love, respect, and lifelong companionship.
