Actor Manisha Koirala has strongly condemned the violent crackdown on protesters in Nepal, calling it a “black day” for the country. Her words come after deadly protests led by young people against corruption and the government’s ban on social media.
At least 20 people lost their lives and more than 250 were injured after security forces opened fire on demonstrators in Kathmandu. The protests began after Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli banned 26 social media platforms, a move seen as an attempt to silence public anger over corruption.
Thousands of Gen Z protesters stormed the Parliament area, leading to clashes with police. Law enforcement used tear gas, rubber bullets, and batons. The violence spread across the country, and the army was deployed to restore order. Curfews were announced in Kathmandu and other cities like Birgunj, Pokhara, Butwal, and Damak.
Manisha, who belongs to Nepal, shared a post on social media with the picture of a blood-stained shoe. In her post, she wrote in Nepali: “Today is a black day for Nepal. When bullets respond to people’s voices, outrage against corruption, and the demand for justice.
