R Madhavan Says Real-Life Couples Lack On-Screen Spark

Bollywood actor R Madhavan, known for romantic hits like Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein and Tanu Weds Manu, is ready to return in a romantic role in his upcoming film Aap Jaisa Koi. In a recent chat with India Today, he shared his views on what makes romantic scenes feel real—and why real-life married couples often fail to show strong chemistry on screen.

Why Married Couples Struggle On Screen

Madhavan said that romantic scenes need genuine desire between the characters. He added,

“You really have to feel the desire for the person in front of you, or else the scene just seems untrue. Married stars are never able to create that. When you are already together, that kind of chemistry just doesn’t translate. It might work if they are separated or no longer together.”

About the Age Gap in His New Film

In Aap Jaisa Koi, Madhavan plays opposite Fatima Sana Shaikh, who is 22 years younger. Fatima responded to the age-gap topic by saying,

“It’s not unrealistic. Cinema shows what’s happening in society. These conversations are already happening.”
