Actor Rajat Kapoor will once again play his role as Mahesh Deshmukh in Drishyam 3. He plays the husband of police officer Meera Deshmukh, a character played by Tabu. In an interview with SCREEN, Rajat spoke openly about his role in the film and said that his character does not really change much.
In Drishyam 3, Rajat Kapoor and Tabu play parents who are grieving the loss of their son. Their characters are trying to find out the truth behind his death.
Talking about his role, Rajat jokingly said that there is “nothing to crack” about his character. Laughing, he shared, “I was standing behind Tabu earlier, and I’m still standing behind Tabu. There’s no arc to my character.” He said this when asked if his role would have more depth in the third part of the film.
Rajat also spoke about the kind of roles he often gets. He said he keeps playing government officers, such as income tax officials, CBI officers, or police officers. He mentioned his roles in Raid 2 and Raat Akeli Hai. According to him, these roles can feel limited because such characters mostly just react to situations and don’t have much to do unless the role is well-written.
The Drishyam franchise originally comes from Malayalam cinema and is directed by Jeetu Joseph. The story follows a family dealing with a serious crime and its consequences. The Hindi version stars Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran and is directed by Abhishek Pathak.
