The iconic 1997 Hindi dub of Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama featuring voices of Arun Govil, Amrish Puri, and Shatrughan Sinha is lost forever. The 4K remaster of the popular anime, released this month, comes with new voice actors in the Hindi version, as the original audio files were lost.
The film’s licensor, TEM Co., explained that despite efforts to restore the original dub, technical and copyright issues made it impossible. The remastered version is based on the 1993 English dub instead, and was released theatrically in January 2025 with dubs in four languages.
The remaster was made possible by Excel Entertainment and Geek Pictures India.
