The entertainment industry lost the legendary comedian Satish Shah on 25 October. His Sarabhai vs Sarabhai co-stars gave him a heartfelt farewell with a musical prayer meet. Ratna Pathak Shah, who played his on-screen wife, shared a touching memory of the only time she saw him truly upset.
Ratna said Satish often hid his emotions behind his humor. In an interview with The Hindu, she recalled the cast singing the Sarabhai theme song to bid him goodbye, celebrating his life with joy rather than sorrow. She added that Satish lived life fully, facing challenges with courage and laughter, and didn’t deserve tears or regrets from others.
She said, “Satish maybe never let his deeper side come out. He never allowed himself to cry. Perhaps he did with his wife Madhu, who was always with him.”
Ratna remembered the only time Satish looked shattered: when his wife Madhu fell ill and needed blood transfusions. “That was the only time we saw a Satish who wasn’t cheerful. But maybe it wasn’t an act — it was his way of handling life,” she said.
About Satish Shah’s Death:
On 25 October, Satish collapsed at his Mumbai home while having lunch. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. Early reports mentioned kidney failure, but co-star Rajesh Kumar confirmed it was a heart attack. Satish is survived by his wife Madhu, who is battling Alzheimer’s, and had no children.
