Actor Sooraj Pancholi recently spoke about how the Jiah Khan suicide case affected his life deeply. In a new interview with SCREEN, Sooraj said the years of trolling and legal battles took a big toll on him. He admitted that there was a time he couldn’t even make eye contact with his family because of the pain they were all feeling.
Sooraj said, “We were not very close before, but this incident brought our family together. Now we can look at each other and smile at the past.” He also shared that people misunderstood him during that time, but his family always supported him.
He said, “Even during my worst days, I tried to stay positive. The trolling, news, being ignored, not getting work, and watching others move ahead—all of it really got to me. But I stayed strong.”
Jiah Khan, who acted in films like Nishabd and Ghajini, was found dead in her Mumbai home in 2013. Sooraj, who was her boyfriend at the time, was arrested for abetment to suicide based on a note Jiah had written. In it, she mentioned feeling mentally and physically hurt in the relationship. Sooraj was acquitted of all charges in 2023.
Sooraj was last seen in Kesari Veer, a historical action movie directed by Prince Dhiman. The film also stars Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, Barkha Bisht, Aruna Irani, and Akanksha Sharma.
