The trailer of Ranveer Singh’s new film Dhurandhar has created a lot of buzz online—but also some criticism. Many people noticed that the trailer uses the classic qawwali “Na Toh Karvan Ki Talaash Hai” from Madhubala’s film Barsaat Ki Raat. Some criticised the makers for “lack of originality.”
Director Sujoy Ghosh decided to support the film. He posted on X (Twitter) saying he loved the trailer and the song at the end. A user replied saying that Bollywood is just remixing old songs instead of creating new ones.
Sujoy responded calmly, saying:
“No one claimed it’s original. It’s actually good that they brought a classic song back.”
The debate continued, with the user saying Bollywood is overusing old songs. But Sujoy stood firm in supporting the makers.
The original qawwali, sung by Manna Dey, Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi, Sudha Malhotra, and SD Batish, is from the 1960 film Barsaat Ki Raat starring Madhubala.
