Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt were arrested last week in a fraud case and sent to judicial custody. On Tuesday, the court denied their request for medical bail, and they were sent back to custody. The police are now preparing their chargesheet in the alleged ₹30 crore fraud case.
The case was filed by businessman Dr. Ajay Murdia. He said he met Dinesh Kataria at an event, who suggested making a biopic on Murdia’s wife. Later, Kataria introduced Murdia to Vikram Bhatt in Mumbai.
According to the FIR, Vikram and his wife promised to produce four films if Murdia invested ₹7 crore initially and provided more funds. They assured that the films could make profits of ₹100-200 crore.
However, Murdia claimed that more than ₹30 crore was misused. The police said the accused used fake bills and documents to siphon off the money.
Vikram and Shwetambari were arrested on December 7 and sent to judicial custody. Their lawyer requested interim bail for medical reasons, but the court denied it. They will now remain in Udaipur Central Jail while the investigation continues.
