Actor Deepika Padukone has surprised fans by leaving yet another big film, this time director Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel. On September 18, Vyjayanthi Movies officially announced that Deepika will not be part of the project. They said the decision was mutual and wished her the best.
But reports suggest there’s more to the story. According to sources, Deepika was not dropped — she herself walked away. The sequel was once planned around her character SUM-80 (Sumathi), but after script changes, her role was cut down to almost a cameo. Feeling sidelined, her team decided to step out.
There are also rumours that Kamal Haasan’s role in the sequel has been expanded. He will return as Supreme Yaskin with a much bigger presence, including 60–70 days of shooting. This shift may have pushed Deepika’s role to the background.
Some whispers also mention fee hikes, work-hour limits, and team demands, but nothing is confirmed. What’s clear is that Deepika’s exit has created more buzz than the movie itself.
The first film starred Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone. The story followed a mission to protect SUM-80 and her unborn child, believed to be the prophesied Kalki — a savior figure from Hindu scriptures.
