Fawad Khan, Vaani Kapoor’s Aabeer Gulaal Slammed By Critics

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Bollywood star Vaani Kapoor’s film Aabeer Gulaal has faced a tough time from the start. The release was already delayed after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Now, while the movie has been released worldwide (except India), critics are not impressed.

Aabeer Gulaal not releasing in India

The film was earlier expected to release in India, but the Press Information Bureau (PIB) confirmed it will not hit Indian theatres. Reports of a September 26 India release were called fake.

Critics give thumbs down

Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, the romantic drama released globally on September 12. However, early reviews suggest it has failed to impress.

  • BBC Asian Network’s Haroon Rashid called it “a frustrating viewing experience,” saying the film looked cheap and had an incoherent story.
  • Gulf News said the film was “bloated” with unnecessary scenes, including Lisa Haydon’s cameo, which added nothing.
  • Khaleej Times mentioned that the movie relied too much on Bollywood clichés like retro songs, dance competitions, and copied moments from classics like DDLJ and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
  • USA Pillar also criticized the film for dragging in the middle with unwanted subplots.
  • Bollywood Hungama, however, had a softer take, calling it a “breezy family entertainer” for those who like light, feel-good films.

Cast and crew

The film stars Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles, with Riddhi Dogra, Farida Jalal, Soni Razdan, Parmeet Sethi, and a cameo by Lisa Haydon. It has been produced by Indian Stories Production, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures, and shot in London.

Verdict

While Fawad and Vaani’s chemistry was expected to shine, critics feel the film let them down. With no India release and mixed-to-poor reviews abroad, Aabeer Gulaal seems to have missed its mark.
