Milap Zaveri’s film Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, released on October 21 and earned ₹16.75 crore in India and ₹21 crore worldwide in just two days. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta faced criticism online for congratulating Zaveri on the film’s success.
Hansal wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Hey @MassZaveri, congrats on the roaring success of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat! May you keep charming the masses!” However, some users criticized him for supporting a film they called “misogynistic.”
Responding to the backlash, Hansal said that while he wishes films could change the world, they often don’t. He mentioned examples of films like Shahid, Arth, Saraansh, Nil Battey Sannata, and Life is Beautiful, which aimed to inspire or empower but couldn’t change everything.
Hansal’s response highlights that celebrating a film’s success doesn’t always mean endorsing its message, but rather recognizing the craft and effort behind it.
