There was a time when Shah Rukh Khan was short of ₹6 lakh to buy his dream house, Mannat, in Mumbai. He even told adman Prahlad Kakkar that if he gave him ₹6 lakh, he would do an ad film. But Prahlad decided to go with Aamir Khan, even though Aamir charged ₹17 lakh – almost triple the amount.
In an interview, Prahlad Kakkar recalled the incident. He said, “Aamir was asking for ₹17 lakh and Shah Rukh only wanted ₹6 lakh, but I needed someone who looked innocent and had a clean image. Aamir had that after Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Shah Rukh, on the other hand, had done films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, where his image wasn’t as squeaky clean.”
Prahlad shared that it took six months of talks before Aamir finally said yes. The ad he referred to was the Pepsi commercial featuring Mahima Chaudhry and Aishwarya Rai.
Over the years, both Aamir and Shah Rukh went on to become Bollywood legends, giving countless hit films. While SRK is now known as the “King of Bollywood,” Aamir is loved as “Mr. Perfectionist.”
