Bollywood actor Rekha was honoured with the Red Sea Honouree Award at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah. The award was presented during the screening of the restored version of her classic 1981 film Umrao Jaan, directed by Muzaffar Ali.
Rekha arrived on the red carpet looking elegant and even recited shayari inspired by her famous Umrao Jaan character. She spoke about how deeply she loves cinema.
While talking to a fan on stage, Rekha used lines from the song Dil Cheez Kya Hai and said that people should keep coming back to watch films. She added that movies have the power to heal and said,
“I am alive because of films.”
Rekha shared that she isn’t someone who talks a lot. She said that in Umrao Jaan, her expressions spoke more than her dialogues. She also remembered her mother, Pushpavalli, saying her mother taught her that a person should show their values through actions, not words.
Umrao Jaan is based on an 1899 Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada.
