Bollywood star Salman Khan is facing legal trouble after a consumer court in Kota sent him a notice over allegedly misleading pan masala advertisements. The complaint says the ads can mislead consumers about the product.
Salman Khan is the brand ambassador of Rajshree, a company that sells elaichi and also pan masala.
Rajasthan lawyer and BJP leader Inder Mohan Singh Honey filed the complaint. He said the ads claim the product has “saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala.” According to him, this claim is false because saffron is very expensive, and a product sold for ₹5 cannot contain real saffron.
The complaint also says such ads send a wrong message to the youth and can encourage them to consume pan masala, which is linked to mouth cancer.
The petitioner said, “Salman Khan is a role model, and such promotions send a harmful message.”
The Kota Consumer Court has issued notices to Salman Khan and the company. They must respond to the complaint. The next hearing will take place on 27 November.
Salman has only appeared in ads for Rajshree Elaichi and not for their pan masala product, but the complaint still includes him because he represents the brand.
