Sanjay Dutt Started A Theatre Group In Jail With Convicts

Actor Sanjay Dutt has often spoken about his difficult time in prison, and recently he revealed how acting helped him survive behind bars. During his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show with Suniel Shetty, Sanjay shared that he formed a theatre group while in jail, with murder convicts as his actors.

Life in Yerwada Jail

Sanjay Dutt was in Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail from 2013 to 2016. He said he doesn’t regret what happened in his life, except losing his parents too early. While in prison, Sanjay kept himself busy with carpentry work, making furniture and paper bags for wages.

He even started a radio station called Radio YCP, which played only inside the jail. Along with other inmates, he hosted programs that included discussions and comedy.

Theatre Group with Convicts

Talking about his creative outlet, Sanjay said, “I even started a theatre group, and I was the director. Murder convicts were my actors.”

Sanjay Dutt’s Past

Son of legendary actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay was sentenced to prison in connection with the 1993 case after being charged with illegal possession of weapons. The Supreme Court upheld the decision in 2013, and he completed his term before being released in 2016.

His life story was later shown in Rajkumar Hirani’s film Sanju, with Ranbir Kapoor playing him on screen. Since coming out of prison, Sanjay has been active in films. He now lives in Dubai with his wife Maanayata and their twins, while frequently visiting Mumbai for work. Recently, he was seen in Baaghi 4 alongside Tiger Shroff, Sonam Bajwa, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, and others
