Comedian Kapil Sharma has received a warning from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for calling Mumbai “Bombay” or “Bambai” on his Netflix show, The Great Indian Kapil Show.
The warning came after a clip went viral from an episode featuring Shilpa Shetty, Shamita Shetty, Huma Qureshi, and Saqib Saleem. In the video, Huma casually used the word “Bombay,” and Kapil repeated it while chatting with the guests.
MNS leader Ameya Khopkar shared the video on X (Twitter) and said that even though the city was renamed Mumbai in 1995, people in Bollywood and TV shows still use “Bombay.”
He also spoke to the media, warning Kapil Sharma directly. He said, “You have worked in Mumbai for years, and the people here love you. Don’t insult the city by calling it Bombay. If this continues, MNS will start a strong protest.”
