For the first time, American fans won’t have to wait to watch Taskmaster. The popular British comedy competition series will premiere in the US on YouTube at the same time as its UK launch. Season 20 begins on Thursday, September 11, airing at 9 p.m. UK time on Channel 4 and on YouTube an hour later (2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET).
This season features returning host Greg Davies and creator Alex Horne, along with new contestants: Maisie Adam, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Phil Ellis, Ania Magliano, and Reece Shearsmith.
Since launching its YouTube channel in 2019, Taskmaster has grown hugely popular, with over 1.2 billion views and nearly 2 million subscribers worldwide, including a big fanbase in North America. Past contestants like Jason Mantzoukas have helped boost its popularity through US TV appearances, while sold-out screenings in New York have further increased fan excitement.
The show’s format hasn’t changed in 10 years. Contestants compete in funny and unusual challenges set by Davies, the “Taskmaster,” while Horne acts as his assistant. Points are awarded for completing tasks, and one contestant wins the season. Past winners include Katherine Ryan, Bob Mortimer, Dara O’Briain, Lou Sanders, Ed Gamble, and Matthew Baynton.
Taskmaster has also inspired local versions in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Portugal, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Croatia.
