Amaran (translated as The Immortal) is a biographical action drama that tells the inspiring story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer known for his bravery and sacrifice. The film explores his life, highlighting his dedication to his duty and his love for his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. It provides an emotional look at his experiences and the impact he made during his service.
Filming for Amaran began on May 5, 2023, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and continued through various locations, including Chennai, Pondicherry, and Puducherry. The shooting was completed over multiple schedules, with the final scenes filmed in April 2024, depicting the heroism of Major Mukund during the Qazipathri Operation.
The film was announced in January 2022, with Sivakarthikeyan confirmed to play the lead role later that year. Kamal Haasan and Sony Pictures Films India co-produced the film. The director, Rajkumar Periasamy, conducted extensive research by meeting Varadarajan’s family to craft an authentic screenplay.
The soundtrack and background score for Amaran are composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, featuring a mix of fast-paced dance numbers and emotional tracks. The first single, “Hey Minnale,” is set to release on October 4, 2024.
Amaran is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on October 31, 2024, coinciding with Diwali celebrations.
