Amazon Prime Video’s Andhera tries to mix horror and sci-fi while exploring the fears and loneliness of today’s youth. The idea is strong — fear of being abandoned and misunderstood — but the execution falls short.
The story
The show begins in Mumbai’s dark lanes where a woman named Bani Baruah is attacked by a mysterious dark force. Inspector Kalpana Kadam takes over the case, leading to strange connections between Bani, a man named Jay Sheth (who sees visions of her), and his comatose brother Prithvi. Jay teams up with Rumi, a paranormal YouTuber, to find out what this “Andhera” really is.
What doesn’t work
The concept is ambitious, but the script feels loose and fails to build real fear. While the music is atmospheric, the plot becomes predictable, and the suspense fades quickly. Some characters, like Surveen Chawla’s role, feel wasted.
Verdict
Andhera had the potential to be a gripping supernatural thriller, but ends up being more style than scares.
