Jewel Thief, starring Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, tries to be a thrilling heist film but ends up being quite predictable. Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, and produced by Siddharth Anand, the film feels like a mix of things we’ve already seen before — without any fresh twist.
The story follows Rehan Roy (played by Saif), who is forced to steal a priceless artefact by a gangster named Rajan Aulakh (played by Jaideep). The plan and the robbery should have been full of tension and excitement, but instead, it feels flat and boring.
The film checks all the usual boxes of a Bollywood heist film — car chases, glamour, emotional backstory, and a final twist — but none of it really hits the mark. The emotional parts, especially Rehan’s bond with his father (played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda), don’t feel real. Also, the sudden romantic angle between Rehan and Farah (Rajan’s wife) feels forced and out of place.
Saif Ali Khan seems unbothered in his role, giving the impression he did it just for money. Jaideep Ahlawat tries to bring some seriousness to his character, and does a decent job. Nikita Dutta doesn’t get much to do and leaves no impact. Kunal Kapoor, who plays the cop, just follows the thieves without much screen time or purpose.
Even though the film moves at a fast pace, it lacks real thrill. At the end, it teases a sequel with the line “The Heist continues,” which feels more like a warning than a promise.
In short, Jewel Thief is a forgettable film that tries to shine but ends up stealing your time instead.
