“Suzhal 2 Review: Average Murder Mystery”

Suzhal – The Vortex Season 2 brings us back to Kaalipattanam, where the story picks up with Nandini (Aishwarya Rajesh) in prison for killing her sister’s abuser using SI Sakkarai’s (Kathir) revolver. Things get complicated when Chellappa (Lal), who is fighting Nandini’s case, is found dead. Muthu (Gouri Kishan) is caught at the scene with the murder weapon, but soon, eight other girls confess to the crime. This shocking twist leaves Sakkarai and his team puzzled as they try to uncover the real killer.

Season 2 explores how these girls are connected to Chellappa’s murder. The investigation leads to many twists, keeping viewers guessing. However, the story moves at a slower pace compared to Season 1. The first few episodes are interesting but soon feel sluggish and predictable. Unlike Season 1, which beautifully showcased the local culture and festival of Kaalipattanam, Season 2 focuses more on police stations and prisons, losing the unique cultural touch.

The new season also brings in many characters, especially the eight girls, to add mystery and confusion. But their backstories are not fully explored, and Nandini’s character feels underused. Some plot points feel forced, and the twists are not as surprising. Sakkarai’s investigation also lacks the sharpness and thrill of a great detective story.

Despite its flaws, Suzhal – The Vortex Season 2 is still one of the better crime thrillers from the Tamil industry. The cinematography by Abraham Joseph and music by Sam CS stand out, especially in scenes showing the Ashtakaali festival. The visuals and music create an engaging atmosphere, even when the story slows down.

Overall, Season 2 is an average follow-up to the gripping first season. It tries to expand the mystery but ends up being predictable. While it has some good moments, it doesn’t match the intensity and excitement of Season 1.
