Vivek Agnihotri’s latest film, The Bengal Files, is now in theaters, and as usual, it has sparked mixed reactions. Known for his controversial films, such as The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, Vivek has now turned his attention to Bengal, revisiting a turbulent time in the state’s history.
About the Movie
The story is set during Direct Action Day in Kolkata (1946) and follows Shiv Pandit (Darshan Kumaar) and Bharati Banerjee (Pallavi Joshi). Both are haunted by tragic pasts — Shiv lost everything in the riots, and Bharati carries the pain of the Kashmiri Pandit exodus of the 1990s.
What People Are Saying
As expected, reactions are polarised:
Overall, audiences are divided. While some see it as an important film about history, others think it is melodramatic and poorly executed.
