Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Bengal Files, releasing on 5th September, is facing problems in West Bengal. Multiplex owners reportedly refuse to screen the film due to political pressure and threats.
Producer and actor Pallavi Joshi shared an open letter to President Droupadi Murmu on Instagram, asking for her intervention to protect her constitutional rights and ensure the movie is released peacefully. She also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government ministries.
Pallavi wrote that the film tells the truth about the Hindu genocide on Direct Action Day, the horrors of Noakhali, and the Partition. She explained that even though there is no official ban, unofficial pressure has stopped theatres from screening it. She added that her family is being threatened and the film’s promotion has been blocked in some places.
The film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, Saswata Chatterjee, Namashi Chakraborty, and others.
