Rohan Parashuram Kanawade’s Marathi film Sabar Bonda, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2025, is finally coming to Indian theatres on September 19. Distributed by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, this is the first Marathi film ever to premiere at Sundance.
The story follows Anand, a city man dealing with personal loss, who visits his ancestral village for a 10-day mourning ritual. There, he reconnects with Balya, a childhood friend, and finds comfort in their shared journey.
Produced with support from filmmakers Nagraj Manjule, Nikkhil Advani, Saie Tamhankar, and Vikramaditya Motwane, the film is praised as a tender yet powerful story about love, loss, and human connection.
