“Ishaan Khatter On Mastering Polo For The Royals”

Actor Ishaan Khatter has played many different roles in his career, but becoming a royal was a new experience for him. In his upcoming Netflix series The Royals, Ishaan plays the role of a prince named Aviraj. Speaking with Hindustan Times, he shared how he prepared for the role and how working on OTT platforms is different from doing films.

Finding Similarities with Aviraj

Even though Aviraj is very different from Ishaan in real life, the actor says he found a few things in common. “We are both emotionally intense people. Aviraj keeps his feelings inside, while I try to express myself better as I grow emotionally,” Ishaan said. However, he mentioned that he doesn’t feel the same urge to escape like his character does.

The Challenge of Learning Polo

One of the toughest parts for Ishaan was learning how to play polo. “Learning polo and playing it like a professional in just two and a half months was a huge challenge. It was very scary at first. But after finishing it, I am happy to say that I did my best and had a lot of fun,” he shared.

How OTT Shows Are Different from Films

Ishaan also talked about the difference between working on a streaming series and films. He explained, “In shows, there is more time to develop the characters and show their stories in detail. But with films, where time is limited, it’s harder because you have to show deep emotions in a short span. That takes a different level of skill and creativity.”

The Royals Cast and Release Date

The Royals stars Bhumi Pednekar opposite Ishaan and features a big ensemble cast including Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Pandey, Vihaan Samat, and Sumukhi Suresh.
The show will premiere on Netflix on May 9.
