Kashyap Calls Netflix India ‘Dishonest, Corrupt’

Anurag Kashyap has openly criticized Netflix India for being ‘dishonest’ and ‘morally corrupt’. The filmmaker took to Instagram to express his frustration after watching the British Netflix drama Adolescence. He praised the show, saying it made him feel numb and jealous because of its powerful storytelling and performances. Kashyap highlighted the amazing work by child actor Owen Cooper and actor/co-creator Stephen Graham, adding that the show’s single-take episodes reflect the hard work behind it.

In his post, Kashyap tagged Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria. He accused them of double standards. Kashyap claimed that if Adolescence was pitched in India, Netflix India would have rejected it or reduced it to a simple film, as they often avoid complex stories.

He also shared his bad experience working with Netflix India during Sacred Games. He blamed the team’s lack of courage and creativity, saying they were driven only by the need to increase subscribers.

Kashyap said he feels frustrated and hopeless because Netflix India often fails to support bold and honest stories. He pointed out that the best Indian shows on Netflix, like Delhi Crime and Kohrra, were either acquired or not fully backed by Netflix India.
