Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara has created history on Netflix. In its debut week, the film became the most-watched non-English movie in the world on the platform.
The film, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, beat the German thriller Fall For Me and Netflix’s Hindi original Inspector Zende to take the top spot.
According to Netflix’s Tudum, Saiyaara got 3.7 million views and 9.3 million watch hours globally. Fall For Me came second with 6.5 million hours, and Inspector Zende, starring Manoj Bajpayee, was third with 6.2 million hours. Another Indian movie, Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, ranked 9th with 2.5 million hours.
Netflix India also shared a video of Ahaan and Aneet thanking fans. They said the film is trending worldwide only because of the audience’s love, adding, “Thank you for watching and rewatching.”
Released just last Friday, Saiyaara climbed to global number 1 in just five days. This achievement is special as no recent Indian movie has managed to reach the global top 3 on Netflix.
