Ananya Panday recently opened up in a heart-to-heart chat with Lilly Singh on her podcast. She spoke honestly about being skinny-shamed during her early days in Bollywood. When she debuted in Student of the Year 2, people made fun of her for being too thin, calling her names like “chicken legs” and “matchstick.”
She shared how even now, when her body has naturally changed with age, people still make assumptions and accuse her of getting surgery. Ananya said, “You can never win,” no matter how you look.
She also pointed out that women often face this kind of judgment more than men and mentioned how women themselves are sometimes the harshest critics of other women.
Ananya admitted that Bollywood has played a role in setting unrealistic beauty standards. She accepted that even in her own films, she may have contributed to showing an unrealistic image of beauty — like always waking up with perfect hair and makeup. She believes it’s important to show a more real and balanced picture.
