These days, it’s rare to see big films releasing in theatres as most people are hooked on OTT platforms. Looking at the next few months, Bollywood is entering a dry patch. One of the main reasons is the Indian Premier League (IPL), which grabs a lot of attention from audiences.
Many films are now changing their release dates. Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s Jolly LLB 3 has been pushed to August instead of coming out soon. Karan Johar’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sanya Malhotra, was supposed to release on April 18 but is now moving to September 12. Apart from late shooting schedules, Adar Poonawalla buying a 50% stake in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions also added to the delay.
Another film, Metro… In Dino, was planned for November last year but will now hit screens on July 4. A source said the team wanted a better release window due to other big movies.
Industry expert Atul Mohan shared that small filmmakers avoid releasing films during IPL season, as IPL attracts huge audiences and can affect box office collections.
