Filmmaker Hansal Mehta and actress Kangana Ranaut had a heated exchange on social media over comedian Kunal Kamra’s controversy. Kunal made a joke about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, after which his Mumbai studio was vandalized and later demolished by the BMC.
Hansal, who spoke against this incident, was questioned on X (formerly Twitter) about why he didn’t support Kangana when her house was demolished. He responded by asking if her house was vandalized for freedom of speech or due to FSI violations.
Kangana reacted strongly, recalling how her house was destroyed overnight before the courts could even intervene. She called Hansal “bitter and stupid” and told him to stay out of her struggles.
Hansal replied with a simple “Get well soon.”
Back in 2020, the BMC, under the then Maharashtra government, demolished parts of Kangana’s Bandra bungalow, calling them illegal. Many believed this was due to her public conflict with the Shiv Sena.
