Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan is all set to make his directorial debut with the much-awaited superhero film Krrish 4. The announcement on Friday surprised many, but hints of Hrithik’s interest in filmmaking were always there.
His father, Rakesh Roshan, who also started as an actor before becoming a filmmaker, directed the first three films in the Krrish franchise. Now, Hrithik is ready to take the legacy forward.
Before making his acting debut, Hrithik worked behind the scenes as an assistant director to his father. At just 17 years old, he assisted Rakesh Roshan in the 1995 film Karan Arjun, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
Even when he debuted as an actor in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai (2000), Hrithik was deeply involved in the filmmaking process. In the Netflix docu-series The Roshans, he revealed that he sat in the editing room to make sure the film turned out perfect.
The first Krrish film was released in 2006 as a spin-off to Koi… Mil Gaya (2003). It became a superhit, leading to a sequel, Krrish 3, in 2013. However, before it was clear that there would be no Krrish 2, rumors spread that Hrithik would direct it.
At a 2012 event, Hrithik shut down the rumors, saying, “I’m not directing Krrish 2 or any other movie. I’m only acting.” However, he also admitted that he had a dream of directing someday.
In 2023, director Siddharth Anand, who worked with Hrithik in Fighter, Bang Bang, and War, called him a “closet filmmaker” and encouraged him to direct. Hrithik soon took a step in that direction by directing an ad for clothing brand Arrow.
Over the last few months, Rakesh Roshan confirmed that he would not direct Krrish 4. In an interview, he said, “The day has come when I have to pass on the baton. It’s better I do it when I can still guide and help.”
On Friday, he made it official that Hrithik will direct Krrish 4. Sharing the news on Instagram, he wrote: “Duggu, 25 years ago, I launched you as an actor. Now, after 25 years, you are being launched as a director by Aditya Chopra and myself for our most ambitious film, #Krrish4.”
With this big step, Hrithik Roshan is all set to bring his vision to life and take the Krrish franchise to new heights!
