Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound may not have earned big at the box office, making only ₹5 crore in India, but actor Ishaan Khatter does not call it a failure. The film was loved at international film festivals and got strong reviews, but did not turn that praise into big numbers in theatres.
Ishaan said the movie will live for a long time in people’s hearts. He shared that not all films follow the same journey and that he knows the box office numbers. He believes Homebound will reach more people slowly and hopes more viewers will support films like this.
The film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. It is based on the true story of two migrant workers during the Covid lockdown. The story follows a Muslim and a Dalit boy who grow up as friends and dream of becoming police officers for a better life and respect. The film is also India’s official entry for the Oscars.
Ishaan also said that when small films do well, it helps the film industry grow. He hopes the audience supports such powerful stories so more meaningful movies can be made.
