Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, who has entertained fans for over 40 years, recently shared a story from his early days in the film industry. On Kunickaa Sadanand’s podcast, Jackie spoke about how Dev Anand offered him a big role in the film Swami Dada—but later replaced him with Mithun Chakraborty.
Jackie said he was very excited when Dev Anand offered him the second lead role in Swami Dada. He told his mother, and even his neighbors celebrated the news. But just 15 days later, Dev Anand called him again and told him that Mithun would take that role instead, as Mithun was a better dancer and a senior actor.
Instead, Jackie was given a small role as a villain’s henchman, working under Shakti Kapoor in the film. He jokingly said, “Shakti Kapoor ka chamcha ban gaya main”, meaning he became Shakti Kapoor’s assistant.
Even though he was demoted, Jackie didn’t feel bad. He still gave his best because he deeply respected Dev Anand. Jackie made his debut in Swami Dada as a villain, but soon became a star with Subhash Ghai’s film Hero, which was a big hit.
After that, Jackie starred in many popular movies like Andar Baahar, Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Tridev, and more.
