Actor Jacqueline Fernandez recently spoke at the 78th Cannes Film Festival about how Bollywood is changing for the better, especially for women. She joined a panel discussion called Women in Cinema, hosted by Deadline Hollywood and the Red Sea Film Foundation.
Jacqueline shared that earlier, women in Bollywood had to look a certain way or be a certain age to get roles. But now, that’s changing. She said, “In India and in Bollywood, it’s no longer about fitting into a fixed image. Women of all age groups are now getting strong lead roles. There are more stories being made for them, and the variety of roles has grown a lot.”
She added that while staying relevant in the industry as one gets older can be tough, many amazing actresses are breaking those limits and proving that there’s no longer a “shelf life” for women in the film industry.
Jacqueline also said that cinema today is more open. People from all backgrounds are now able to share their stories freely, no matter their age, gender, or culture.
Jacqueline will next appear in Housefull 5, a big comedy film with a star-studded cast. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the movie also stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sonam Bajwa, Sanjay Dutt, and many more. It is set to release in June.
