“Smita Patil Slammed Bollywood For Objectifying Women”

Late actor Smita Patil, a powerhouse of talent, once fearlessly called out Bollywood’s obsession with objectifying women. In an old Doordarshan interview, she slammed how commercial films portray women as either weak, foolish, or just eye candy.

She also pointed out the double standards in Indian cinema, saying,
“You can’t show a hero in minimal clothing—nothing happens. But if a woman is shown that way, they think it will bring in more viewers. The audience has been conditioned to believe that if a movie has bold visuals, it must be watched. But that’s totally wrong! A good story will always work—cheap gimmicks don’t make a film successful.”

When asked about the bathing scene poster from her film ‘Chakra’, she revealed that it wasn’t in her control and that she would never have approved it if she had a choice. She also believed that filmmakers and actors have the power to change this trend and bring meaningful cinema to audiences.

This iconic interview recently resurfaced on Reddit, and fans couldn’t stop praising her views! One user commented, “She is saying exactly what I feel! Filmmakers make trash and then blame the audience for watching it.”

With over 80 films to her name, Smita Patil was more than just an actor—she was a force of change. She won two National Film Awards, a Maharashtra State Film Award, and the prestigious Padma Shri. Some of her legendary films include Manthan, Bhumika, Aakrosh, Chakra, Shakti, Arth, and Waaris.

She passed away at 31 in 1986 due to childbirth complications while giving birth to her son, Prateik Babbar. But her legacy and fearless voice still inspire generations.
