The trailer for Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound is out, and it’s touching hearts. The film, which premiered at Cannes and won awards at the Toronto International Film Festival, tells the story of two friends fighting caste and religious discrimination while chasing their dream of becoming policemen.
Ishaan Khatter plays Mohammad Shoaib, an office boy facing religious bias, while Vishal Jethwa plays Chandan Kumar, a Dalit dealing with caste discrimination. Both believe a government job in uniform will earn them the respect society has denied them. Janhvi Kapoor also stars as their friend, a young PhD aspirant facing her own challenges.
The trailer was released by Dharma Productions on YouTube and social media and has moved viewers to tears. Many praised the performances and the story’s message.
Homebound is based on a true story originally shared in a 2020 New York Times essay by Basharat Peer. This film marks Neeraj Ghaywan’s return to directing after 10 years since Masaan. The film will release in India on 26 September.
