Sonakshi Sinha is all smiles as her film Nikita Roy is set to release alongside Kajol’s Maa on June 27. Both films are led by strong female characters, and Sonakshi believes this is a proud moment for women in cinema.
Talking about the box office clash, Sonakshi said, “It’s great that two women-led films are releasing on the same day. It shows progress. Both are different films, and there’s enough space for everyone. It’s a healthy competition.”
Nikita Roy is a psychological thriller where Sonakshi plays an investigator who exposes fake supernatural claims. But she comes across a case that shakes her beliefs. The film explores the line between truth and illusion.
Directed by her brother Kussh S Sinha, the film was a smooth collaboration. “On set, we were not siblings. I was the actor, he was the director. He was clear and professional,” she said.
Sonakshi also praised Kajol and Maa, a mythological horror film. “Kajol is someone I’ve always admired. I saw the trailer and loved it. I’m excited to watch her film too,” she added.
For years, Sonakshi has chosen roles that show strong female characters like in Akira, Dahaad, Heeramandi, and now Nikita Roy. She said, “It feels great to be the hero of my films and play powerful roles.”
