Janhvi Kapoor Did Homebound For Free As Crew Took Pay Cuts
Dharma Productions’ recent films Dhadak 2 and Homebound did not perform well in theatres, even though they got great reviews. But the company’s creative head, Somen Mishra, revealed that Dharma did not lose money on them.
He explained that both movies were made on very tight budgets. Everyone, including writers and crew, took a pay cut, and Janhvi Kapoor even worked for free in Homebound. Because the cost was so low, the films stayed safe financially.
Somen said that Dharma usually earns a big part of its money before the film even reaches theatres. They sell music rights, digital rights, and satellite rights in advance. This helps them recover most of the investment early. If a film costs ₹100 crore, they often earn ₹80 crore from these deals before release — so the risk is small.
Box Office Performance
- Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, made around ₹29 crore in theatres. It got positive reviews and later became popular on Netflix.
- Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, made about ₹3 crore due to a limited release. The film has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars.
Dharma believes that strong music, digital deals, and smart budgeting help them avoid losses, even if the box office numbers are low.
