Maa Day 2: Kajol’s Film Collects ₹10 Cr

Kajol is back on the big screen after three years with the horror film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia. The film is part of the Shaitaan universe and opened in cinemas to mixed reviews.
On Day 1, Maa earned ₹4.65 crore. On Day 2 (Saturday), the film saw a small rise, collecting ₹5.4 crore. This brings the total to ₹10.05 crore in India.
The film had around 22% Hindi occupancy on Saturday. Morning shows had 9.94% turnout, while afternoon and evening shows saw 26.87% and 30.26% respectively.
While Kajol’s performance is being praised, many viewers felt the horror elements were not strong enough. Some liked the VFX, but others thought the second half of the movie dragged. These mixed reactions have affected the film’s box office growth.
Maa released alongside Vishnu Manchu’s film Kannappa, which had a stronger start with ₹9.35 crore on Day 1 but saw a drop on Day 2.
About the Film
Maa is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, and Kumar Mangat Pathak. Kajol plays a strong mother who fights against a deadly curse to protect her daughter. The cast also includes Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma.
The story is inspired by the myth of Goddess Kali and the demon Raktabija. While the idea is powerful, many felt the movie took too long to build up and lacked a strong climax.
