Ramayana Could ‘Fail’ If West Dislikes: Producer

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor (as Ram), Yash (as Ravana), Sai Pallavi (as Sita), Sunny Deol (as Hanuman), Amitabh Bachchan (as Jatayu), and Ravi Dubey (as Laxman). Backed by Prime Focus Studios’ Namit Malhotra, the two-part film is set to be India’s most expensive ever, with a combined budget of ₹4,000 crore.
Namit says the film is made for a global audience. In an interview, he shared, “If people in the West don’t like it, I consider it a failure. It should connect with everyone, not just Indian audiences.” He added that Ramayana is designed to appeal to both believers and non-believers, crossing cultural and religious boundaries.
Director Nitesh Tiwari emphasized the emotional side of the story. “Emotions are universal. If the audience connects emotionally, they will connect with the story, no matter where they’re from,” he said.
With a score by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, Ramayana is planned for release during Diwali 2026. The film combines cutting-edge technology, a star-studded cast, and international collaboration to bring Indian mythology to a global stage.
