Ameesha Patel On Struggles As Outsider In Bollywood

Ameesha Patel, who made her Bollywood debut with Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, recently spoke about the tough journey she faced as an outsider in the industry.

Why insiders don’t like her

In an interview, Ameesha revealed that many insiders dislike her because she doesn’t “maska-lagao” (butter up) for work. She said, “At the end of the day, it’s the audience’s love that matters. I don’t drink, smoke, or belong to camps, so I get work only on my merit. People don’t like that about me, but I won’t suck up to anyone.”

She also shared that she wasn’t the first choice for Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The role came to her only after Kareena Kapoor was dropped from the film.

Struggles of being alone in the industry

Ameesha added that it is harder to survive without a partner from the industry. “If you don’t have a husband or boyfriend from Bollywood, no one backs you. Being an outsider is very hard,” she explained.

Her recent work

Ameesha made a big comeback with Gadar 2 in 2023, which became a blockbuster, earning ₹686 crore worldwide. She was last seen in the 2024 film Tauba Tera Jalwa. While the movie received negative reviews, her acting was praised. Ameesha has not yet announced her next project.
